Ufa is the Russian year, where Orthodoxy is one of the main religions. Each area boasts its own shrine with an interesting history and valuable relics. As in other parts of the country, the churches of Ufa for the most part were closed and destroyed during the Soviet period.

Although there were some exceptions: the Church of the Intercession has survived to this day in its original form, and services in the Holy Cross Church were resumed in the early 40s. Relying on the past of the city, the authorities are trying to build new Orthodox objects in iconic places or according to old architectural plans. For example, the Resurrection Cathedral is a copy of the temple of the same name that was lost in the 30s.

Operating churches and cathedrals of Ufa

List of the most famous temples in the city.

Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin

The construction of the main Orthodox church in the city began in 1889. The work was suspended due to lack of money, only the intervention of the patron Patokin helped to complete the project. The walls of the cathedral, like the three-tiered bell tower, are brick. After the revolution, the church was not closed immediately, but already in the 30s all the property was taken out. In the 90s, a large reconstruction was carried out, after which services were resumed.

Church of the Intercession

The construction took several years and was completed by 1817. The church is located in the lowlands, so you can skip it when exploring the city. This location played into the hands of the Orthodox shrine: it was bypassed by the destruction and plundering of the Soviet period. In architectural terms, the temple reached its contemporaries in its original form. Now the church has a Sunday school for all ages.

Bogorodsko-Ufa temple

At the beginning of the 17th century, an icon appeared to a local resident, which made it possible to save the village. Nearby, a healing spring came. Then they decided to build a church in honor of these miracles. The first building was wooden; it was destroyed in a fire. The second version of the temple was built of stone at the end of the 19th century. In Soviet times, a school was located inside, and the bell tower was dismantled as unnecessary. The territory was returned to believers in the 90s.

Resurrection Cathedral

For a long time, the most populous parish in the city was limited to a prayer house. Since there was no money for the construction of a large church, in 2003 the authorities decided to lay at least the foundation of the church. Soon sponsors were found, and the project turned out to be more ambitious. They took the appearance of the Resurrection Cathedral demolished in 1932 as a basis. For the same reason, the former name was retained.

Some of them showed two-fingered Old Believers. This was due to the large number of Old Believer parishioners. From the 30s to the 40s, no service was carried out. In 1990, the temple was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church. The reconstruction turned out to be large-scale: the old walls were demolished due to extreme deterioration, only the foundation remained.
