Krasnodar is considered a relatively young city in Russia - its history goes back a little over two hundred years. But in terms of the number of churches, it is not inferior to other, more ancient Russian cities. Some of the city's churches were built in the 19th century, when Krasnodar was called Yekaterinodar. Others were built quite recently, in the 2000s.

The architecture of Krasnodar churches has absorbed the traditions of Russian church architecture. These are domed temples, usually built of red bricks. The interior decoration of ancient churches has been carefully restored, in some of them there are images and other shrines especially revered in Orthodoxy. There are also churches of other faiths in Krasnodar - Catholic, Armenian Apostolic Church, ECB, RPIC and others.
